Paul Anderson will perform his new tune, Land of the Standing Stones, in a special one-off concert in Inverurie to mark St Andrew’s Day. He will be joined by a line-up of professional musicians with Aberdeenshire connections who have used Paul’s piece as a starting point to write new musical works.

These variations of the composition will be played in a range of styles for different instruments, and include performances by the Edinburgh String Quartet and Old Blind Dogs. More than 50 talented young musicians from across Aberdeenshire will also take to the stage as part of new youth bands and orchestras that have been formed especially for this event.

The selected composers are James Clapperton (piano), Robert Aitken(pipes), John Hearne (classical), Jonny Hardie (folk), Justin Brook (jazz), Claire Singer (electric acoustic), Dr Roger Williams (organ) and Bill Thompson (experimental acoustic).

Legendary entertainer and classical pianist, George Donald, will compere the showcase concert and promises a few improvisations of his own.

George hails from Aberdeenshire. He had a highly successful career as a language teacher until he left it for a life of professional music, touring with the hit comedy revue act ‘Scotland the What?’ for an incredible 25 years.

Alongside his teaching he always pursued his enthusiasm for piano music, studying with some of the world’s most eminent teachers. George has performed widely as both soloist and accompanist in Britain and abroad, partnering many well-known artists in a wide variety of musical styles.

He has collaborated in producing several CDs with popular Scottish fiddler Paul Anderson.
